In COPD, the airway tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs are partially obstructed. Symptoms are cough, sputum (mucus) production, shortness of breath especially with exercise, wheezing, chest tightness. The severity of the symptoms depends on how much of the lung has been destroyed. This disease develops slowly, and it may be years before one notices symptoms like shortness of breath. Mostly COPD is diagnosed in middle-aged or older people.
