Title : Acid phosphatase
Short Description : Blood test.
Description : Explanation of Test: Acid Phosphatase is an enzyme that is widely distributed in various tissues (liver, spleen, kidneys and blood components) but has greatest activity in the prostate gland and in prostate secretions. For this reason, test of acid phosphatase is used in diagnosis of prostate cancer and in monitoring efficacy of treatment of prostatic cancer. Elevated levels of acid phosphatase are seen in patients with prostate cancer that has metastasised to other parts of the body, especially the bone.
Reference range: Male adult: 0.3-0.7 U/L female adult: 0.2-0.6 U/L
Title : Alanine transaminase

Description : Explanation of Test: ALT is an enzyme found in primarily in hepatic (liver) cells and to a lesser degree in the kidney, heart and skeletal tissues. This test is done as part of the panel to diagnose liver disease and cirrhosis. ALT can also be used to monitor treatment of hepatitis as well as monitor effects of drug treatment that might be toxic to the liver. This enzyme is elevated in myocardial infarction.
Reference range: Adult: 7-36 U/L
Title : Albumin
Short Description : Blood test.
Description : Explanation of Test: Albumin's main functions are to maintain normal distribution of water in the body and to transport blood constituents. Albumin is produced in the liver and makes up half of the total protein in blood. Testing of albumin levels in blood helps in the diagnosis of hepatic, and renal diseases.
