Title : Blood haemoglobin (Hb)
Short Description : Blood test
Description : The red blood cell contains a substance called haemoglobin(Hb). Hb consists of an iron-containing red pigment (haem) combined with a protein substance (globin). Hb gives the red cells their colour and their ability to take up oxygen from the lungs, and then deliver the oxygen to tissues where it is needed. Iron is the key raw material required by the body to keep the production of Hb up to the normal rate. One of the sources of iron is from food, such as meat, liver, eggs, wholemeal bread and green vegetables. A person is considered anaemic if the Hb falls below normal range. Severe anaemia can lead to many conditions including heart failure. Anaemia can be caused by a) loss of blood through bleeding, b) deficiency of iron from food, c) decreased production of red blood cells, and d) hereditary disease such as thalassaemia

Title : Blood urea nitrogen
Short Description : Blood test
Description : Blood carries protein for use by cells throughout the body. After the cells use the protein, the remaining waste product is returned to the blood as urea, a compound containing nitrogen. Healthy kidneys take urea out of the blood and send it to the bladder in the urine. If your kidneys are not working well, the urea will stay in the blood.
Normal blood contains 7 to 20 milligrams of urea per deciliter of blood. If your BUN is more than 20 mg/dl, your kidneys may not be working at full strength. Other possible causes of an elevated BUN include dehydration and heart failure.
Reference range: adult: 7-36 U/L
Title : Blood: Packed Cell Volume (PCV)
Short Description : Blood test
Description : PCV measures the concentration of red cells (packed by centrifuging) to the volume of the whole blood sample. It is useful test for the evaluation of haematological disorder such as anaemia and other conditions
Reference range:0.36 - 0.47
