Explanation of Test: LDH is widely distributed in tissues of the body. Increases reported usually indicate cellular damage or death from the cell. Although elevated levels are non-specific due to its wide distribution, this test is useful when viewed with other confirming tests. This blood test is used mainly to diagnose myocardial infarction, pulmonary infarction and liver disease. In myocardial infarction, LDH remains elevated longer in the blood than CK (creatine kinase). LDH can help differentiate muscular dystrophy and pernicious anaemia
